”I, uhh, no. I haven’t.” Luke couldn’t help but notice how she seemed to get a little flustered all of a sudden and just smiled, not thinking much of it. Maybe she had in fact found her Mr. Perfect. But he decided not to say anything about it, he didn’t want her to feel that uncomfortable and it wasn’t like she was going to tell him or like he cared to know. He sure as hell hadn’t found any Ms. Perfect, and if he did, he would probably stay as far away as possible from her. Luke wasn’t honestly one bit jealous of those people that found their soul mates and fell in love and all that. Not only it sounded boring as hell, but those things never lasted or ended well. He just tried to live the moment and enjoy anything he could get, because he didn’t expect it to last. It wasn’t very optimistic or very healthy, but neither was Luke.
”I guess that the movies and stuff like that give people hope… You know, like when you’re young and you’re in the car and you see the flashing lights on other cars telling you where they’re going and you wonder how it works, because a car can’t possibly know which way it’s driver wants it to go…” .. What the hell was she talking about? Luke was pulled out of his thoughts and just stared at her, furrowing his eyebrows, definitely a tad confused. ”Even when you grow up, you can’t help but still wonder if it was magic or something that made the lights do that, even if you do know how to drive and all…” She really stretched that metaphor. Bonnie was probably talking out of experience, because if the girl had just come up with that, she was definitely a bit nuts, but she didn’t seem so. Luke took a while to answer, pondering on what she had said.
”That was a great example, by the way."
He commented, before actually replying to her, laughing a little. Not making fun of her, just lightening the conversation. ”Ahn.. Yeah, I can see that, I guess. It’s like when you’re a kid and you still wanna believe in Santa, even though you know he’s not real. Taking the magic away kinda takes some of the appeal of things away, too.” What the hell was HE talking about now? “I sound like such a chick”, he thought, as he took a pause, before speaking again. ”But in the end, the truth is that if you’re gonna wait for Santa, you’re gonna wait forever. There is no magic, really. And some people just can’t deal with that, so they keep fooling themselves. Eventually, you gotta move on and live in the real world.” “Way to drag down the mood”, Luke thought, as he looked away from the girl and stared at the pond nearby. The words kind of slipped out of his mouth, he didn’t mean to be such a downer and much less to be complaining to her about how there was no magic in the world. Maybe it was the fact that they were just chit-chatting about meaningless stuff that prevented him from realizing how the conversation had gotten so serious and allowed him to just burst that out. Maybe he should just leave, he considered. Luke's outfit[/blockquote]

”That was a great example, by the way."
He said, and Bonnie felt the sides of her lips pull up into a smile. She’d been worried that he wouldn’t get it at all, and he didn’t seem like the type of person who would say a white lie in order not to hurt her feelings. ”Ahn.. Yeah, I can see that, I guess. It’s like when you’re a kid and you still wanna believe in Santa, even though you know he’s not real. Taking the magic away kinda takes some of the appeal of things away, too.” Bonnie’s smile grew until she was practically beaming up at Luke. Probably not a great idea, and if Bonnie ever looked back on this day then she might realize that. But right now she didn’t have the option of hindsight. She nodded along politely as he used his own analogy, trying to show that she got it, which she did. Coming to think of it, using Santa Claus as an example would’ve been a lot better than talking about magical beings living in cars. .”But in the end, the truth is that if you’re gonna wait for Santa, you’re gonna wait forever. There is no magic, really. And some people just can’t deal with that, so they keep fooling themselves. Eventually, you gotta move on and live in the real world.” Bonnie’s smile faded quickly after that. It wasn’t that he didn’t get what Bonnie had tried to say, because she was pretty sure he did. ”You’re such a downer...” Bonnie said, although she hadn’t meant to say a word. She’d spoken her thoughts, something she did all too much and she ended up getting into sticky situations because of it. She needed to learn how to stop doing it. But was she going to take it back? ...Yes. She was. ”Oh my gosh, I- I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to...” Bonnie said, the words coming out of her mouth faster than she could think them. She shouldn’t have said something like that to him, it wasn’t nice of her at all, and she mentally chastised herself for doing it. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Luke noticed her smiling at him widely like that without thinking much of it. At least they were talking about the same thing. Now, he had turned his eyes away and was staring at the pond, where some kids were throwing bread to the ducks. He was still a little bothered by the fact that he just blurted that out. Well, the girl didn’t seem to think it was a big deal, but he definitely thought it was a good idea to change the subject of the conversation. ”You’re such a downer...” He looked at her again, ready to reply by saying that yes, he was, or something to that effect, when she spoke again.
”Oh my gosh, I- I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to...” He stopped and just stared at the girl, looking confused for a few seconds. She didn’t mean to what? Then he got it. Bonnie probably thought she sounded mean or something. He had to restrain himself from laughing out loud. Instead, Luke just pretended to take offense at the girl’s comment. ”That was awful… How could you say that?”
He paused for a few seconds then just burst into laughter. ”Jesus, seriously… Relax, Bonnie. I’m not gonna bite you.” He wondered what the girl thought of him, if she was apologizing for that. Sad thing is, maybe it wasn’t even about him and she was just like that. The girl definitely needed to relax a little. ”You were right, I really am. Sorry for being such a downer. I’m probably worse than homework.” He just smiled at her now. Normally, Luke would be annoyed by any girl as nice as Bonnie, but he found her funny. Maybe it was the fact that she was there talking to him even though she probably shouldn’t be. ”That was awful… How could you say that?”
He agreed with her. Bonnie dropped her head, ashamed at herself for saying what she said. She was about to apologize again until she heard him break out into laughter. Bonnie looked up at him, her face a picture of bewilderment. Why on earth was he laughing? Bonnie really didn’t understand what was happening. ”Jesus, seriously… Relax, Bonnie. I’m not gonna bite you.” Relax? Bonnie thought to herself. She’d thought she was pretty relaxed... But apparently not. ”Sorry,” Bonnie said, apologizing without realizing it. It was a second nature of hers. ”You were right, I really am. Sorry for being such a downer. I’m probably worse than homework.” Bonnie really didn’t understand him. He was agreeing with the statement that she wished had never left her head. Surely he didn’t mean it... Bonnie couldn’t tell... So much for being able to read people. ”I didn’t mean it...” Bonnie insisted, ”Believe me, homework is a lot boring. I can think of things I’d rather be doing today.” Like sunbathing Bonnie thought idly to herself. She missed days where she could spend the afternoon in her back garden listening to her iPod or reading a book in the sun. ”Sorry,” Luke was amused by the fact that Bonnie seemed to have no clue of what was going on, until she figured it out. Sorry? Again? This girl apologized way too often and for anything. She was too uptight. Or she was probably a little uncomfortable with him. Luke smiled. “Again? You need to stop saying that. I can take it.”
It was probably useless, she would probably keep walking on eggshells around him, so he just shrugged and let it go. ”I didn’t mean it… Believe me, homework is a lot boring. I can think of things I’d rather be doing today.” At least she thought homework was boring, otherwise Luke would just have to give up talking to her and walk away. ”Okay, you didn’t, I believe you. And yeah, me too, I guess. Could be worse, though. It’s a nice day out, the park is beautiful… you got me as your company.” Luke smiled at her, obviously kidding, but at that point he wasn’t even sure she was going to realize it. It would probably be worse if Luke was actually doing any homework, instead of just talking to her. He spent a lot of his afternoons at the park, just slacking off, playing his guitar, people watching or whatever. Not much different from this one, if it weren’t for Bonnie. Not that they were talking about anything interesting. Luke got bored easily and he was running out of things to say. Maybe he should just let the girl do her homework. He looked down, actually checking his textbook, but completely uninterested. It could be written in Greek as far as he knew. He had taken Biology last year and failed it, after not handing out half the papers he was supposed to. He still remembered a thing or two, though, he thought, as he looked idly at the textbook, while starting to tap his pen on the edge of his spiral notebook. Whatever. He couldn’t really concentrate for more than ten seconds, so he took a deep breath, averted his eyes and looked around the park once again. As much as Luke hated school, it was amazing how much of his summer he spent feeling bored. Go figure. Luke's outfit[/blockquote]
